this happened to me in kamadan, i had just made a new char, and not wanting to go through nf, i decided to get a runner to consulate docks and go over to a different campaign...

Me: lfr to consulate docks
scammer: i can get you there for 1k
*i join party, there are 2 other people there, he takes us to the court area*
scammerk, give me the money here
me: no, you'll just map out
*rest of party agreed*
scammer: but i'll get you to consulate and you'll all go...ok, pay me half here, and half at consulate
me: no, you'll just map out
rest of team: ok, half here
me: he'll just scam you
rest of team: kick him, come on
*i left and continued to look for a runner*

a short while later, guess who i see spamming the all chat? our scammer, so i whisper:
me: so, i see you scammed the other two
scammer: what?

for any newbies, there is a quest to get you to consulate, and you can only do it once, even if he did take the others to consulate(which i seriously doubt) he wouldn't be able to take anyone else.
he was truly pathetic

^Can't you just abandon the quest then take it again and ferry more people?

Only time I've been scammed is on the 3rd last (I think) mission on nf (the one where you free spirits) I kept getting bad parties, quitters and the like. So I seen this one Derv saying "Running miss 1k!" he asked for cash up front, everyone paid & we started miss, guess who logged out

Then about a minute later there was a warrior at the same area saying he'd run miss for 1k! I warned everyone not to join, they didn't listen, then a short while later they were all complaining about being scammed lol

Not really this biggest scam, but the only one I've ever been duped by

I've been scamed or just have bad-luck?

The runner offered run to Frostmaw's Burrows for 30k.
But he said that he need us to pay half after first lvl - to make sure we wont leave - as an insurencce. He also said tht the consetes are expensive so he need to be sure that we won't run away.

First lvl was runned ok.
At the start of 2nd lvl we paid him a half. But at the boss on 2nd level runner left.

I tried to talk to him - he just says samething about bad connection and laggs, he offer to run tommorow for a half proce - but I wasn't agree. We agree that he will pay me back, but then he go offline (or just ignore me - i can't check that).

I know that only scamers want money before run... But I understand reasons when he explain us why he need us to pay after 1st level...

How do you think - was it scam (and I'm a loser) or I just have a bad-luck? How do you wthink - will he pay my money back?

PS.
Excuse my english.

Ok, I have a story to tell of a very good scam, but still was sort of meh in the end.

So a person in KC was offering a free torment shield for anyone who wins their "event"

So, I go in their party, it's a full party, Party leader says he knows no one(this is a lie, you'll see why in a second). Takes us outside to bukdek. Tells everyone to stand in a line. He then tells everyone to do a "nice emote", everyone does one. He calls up two people(one of them being his friend/the mole) and tells them to have an emote competition. Guess who wins the torment shield? The mole(his friend). After that he drops a rune of vitae and says whoever picks this up will get to stay in the finals for my Crystalline sword(he had one equipped). I picked it up, so I got to stay for the finals. lol. He goes back into town, kicks everyone but 3 people(Mole, Me, and a random person). He then says to stand around him in his agro circle and says to drop your rarest item you have with you and he will drop his crystalline sword. I dropped his rune of vitae(because this seemed a little too fishy), the random person dropped a gold dagger weap(worth 8k) and The Mole dropped a green. The Party leader quickly uses return on the person who dropped the gold daggers, takes them , and then quickly leaves the game. The mole picks his green up at the same time and leaves right after the party leader does.

I thought that was the best scam I've seen in a while.

: )

I had someone try the drop then recall scam on me. Was selling a mini pet and they must have thought it was super rare (was a fire imp) and when they added me to party I saw that it was a Mo/A... since it was not worth much I dropped it and immediately picked it back up as they appeared next to me then ran into the district. Was a good laugh - I PM'd them for a hour after that telling them how much they fail at even scamming....

Heh.
Not exactly GW related in fact not even game related but...

A few years back, this was happening in Serbia in magazines. An ad would appear, designed to fit as a more or less normal text, featuring some person who got rich so fast and he wants to tell us how he did it... The same process, you pay him, sending him by post i think it was along the lines of 10 euros, so he could reveal to you his secret, and the secret was, of course, do the same thing.

The magazines made deals with people who did this, lots of money was being made off stupid people, it went on for a shockingly long period of over a year, and it was all perfectly legal.

Biggest scam ive seen.

Certainly the most dishonorable scam I've ever seen was when me and some other random guys were being ran through Cathedral of Flames (I don't usually hire runners, but the going rate for that dungeon is so low that it is impossible to get a group for it in Hard Mode otherwise). Anyways, one of the other customers ran into a room that was full of enemies and you do not have to enter, got killed, and told us not to bother helping him. He did this at every opportunity. We helped him anyways. Though none of us realized it at the time, he was hoping that we'd finish the dungeon without him, then he'd respawn when we left and claim the treasure. Anyways, when we got to the end, he simply refused to pay, knowing that with so much time committed, either the runner would help beat the boss for free or one of us would pick up his fee. And he was right.

Best scam ever is to try and buy something thats worth like 50k or even 80k for 100k. and when the trade channel opens just submit 100g and watch the poor guy accepts the deal quickly out of greed.

I didn't do it. I had it done to me lmao.

Sides, scammin is not even against the EULA, as long as you dont use a hack/glitch/exploit to do it, they can bring no punishment againt you. Niether are runs supported.

I've had this scam twice on me being that i'm rich I was a target at chat when I was selling stuff. I get a random pm saying how i can dupe my items. He says it requires 2 people and can be done in 1 of the desert missions. So i go out of curiosity and he gives me a psycho babble about a program that causes lag - effectively causing a network lag resulting in dupes. So he tells me to drop my rarest item and stay put after he gets off somewhere(which is actually a cut scene that takes us to the same place together, and while i dropped the item, he goes and runs to get it; pretty damn smart) so i'm there just laughing in my seat cause i know the mission pretty well. I'm like why can't i drop my customized sword? i want 2 of those! he goes i only have 2 tries to do this while my account gets suspended! GG I leave oh and the other guy mentioned "a missing file in the .dat file" instead of the network lag term.
